Destination NEXT: Palometa Club

Well, after the latest reports from Punta Allen, it became increasing clear that we needed in on the Permit action. I'll have you know, we're now booked and heading down for a project at The Palometa Club on March 20th. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed when fishing for the most enigmatic species on the flats, but our odds are better going with this group. The Palometa Club is a spectacular new lodge which caters extensively to the Palometa aficionado. Of course we'll spend some time chasing other flats species and even going outside, but the majority of our days we'll be chasing the flooding tide.

I'm sure we'll swing by Boca Piala for a day as well to check things out. I had to laugh remembering "The Early Days." One of my first permit came from that memorable lagoon over a decade ago. Here is a scanned shot that came out of one of those "film box cameras" (Yes, Castaway Films started with disposable cameras AND gold necklaces, Board Shorts, and Abercrombie hats. Rock on! At least we got the shirt right!).

We have since returned many times to the Yucatan, and have some pretty good stories to pass on. Remind me to tell you sometime about Sirena, the Mexican Mermaid...
