This weekend we spent on the water with Captain Steve Kunnath, owner and operator of the Lake St. Claire Fly Fishing Guide Service. Steve is a great guy and brings a long love of the sport to guiding. Interestingly, while going to school at Montana State, Steve worked at Simms and was in charge of the wader department. About a decade ago, Steve decided that he needed more time on the water and has since established the finest fly fishing guiding service in the greater Detroit area.
Steve is the resident expert on Lake St. Claire Muskie, Pike, Small and Large Mouth Bass, and Carp! He is frequently quoted on these species and has been featured in numerous publications, interviews, and video productions. Once in the closet, Steve is now an open purveyor of Lake St. Claire's Golden Bone. In fact, Carp are among his favorite gamefish and he's got some pretty good stories to tell about a 22-pounder that was landed on a 6 weight in the shallows.
In all we had a fantastic day on the water. If you are stopping by Detroit on vacation or on a business trip during the spring, summer, or fall we would highly recommend that you give Steve a call at 248.320.0688.
